Your Integrity Matters -- and It Shows

You spend time preparing valuable content for your clients. You give them numerous materials consisting of audio, video, and the written word. You share your experience, wisdom, and knowledge with them. More than your webinars, calls, and other material, however, your greatest influence is your example.
 
First Impressions - Marketing (NO Fear Here!)

When you study copywriting, you're taught to manipulate others by emphasizing their fears. The psychology of this does work, but do you want people to come to you because they're afraid?

When you attract others by what you can provide them, they’re excited about what they'll learn. You'll have prepared them to expect information which can strengthen their lives and businesses.
 
Be Honest in What You Say and Do 

Perhaps you've heard the expression, "Time promotes or exposes everyone."

Being honest and forthright in what you say and do may seem self-evident and something you do as an extension of your relationship with Jesus Christ.

What you may not do naturally, however, is be transparent about your own journey. Sharing your ups and downs is not only more honest, but can also bring you greater trust, authority, and success.

You've heard me say before that when you coach from a place of shared experience with your client, from "I had a similar issue" or "I've worked with/known people who came through something very similar," people will see you are not some "talking head," but share common ground. 

While it may seem contrary to our role as leaders, there is strength in vulnerability and transparency. 

IF you have gone through a similar experience yourself, I believe it is completely appropriate as a Christian coach to share how the Lord brought you through. You are building HOPE and we know that "Now faith is the substance of things HOPED for, the evidence of things not (yet) seen" (Heb. 11:1). 
 
Consider these ideas:

• You have wisdom to share. You didn't gain it by doing everything right. Most wisdom is gained through embarrassing moments. Share your mistakes.
  
  
• Be transparent. Make your bad day a teaching moment by sharing what you do to overcome the difficulties everyone faces.
  
  
• If you find yourself blurring the lines of integrity, it's time to consult with someone who can get you back on track. Consider consulting with a mature female Christian mentor (if you are a woman) or a mature male Christian mentor (if you are a man). 
  
  

Keeping Your Commitments 

Of course, you plan on giving your coaching clients all you've promised. You'll deliver the phone calls, workshops, and materials. Keeping your commitments, however, involves more than just providing the meetings and materials you promised.


It's also about the intangibles your client may never see, but they’ll notice:

• Are you rested?
  
  
• Is your mind clear?
  
  
• Have you covered your sessions in prayer?

 

• Have you typewritten your session questions and action steps ahead of time (always being open to the leading of the Holy Spirit during your session)? While I seldom cover everything I have prepared for a client during our session, it's good to have an abundance of material rather than too little!
  
  

Handling Difficult Clients

The easiest way to avoid having difficult clients is to apply strict standards in selecting those with whom you work.
 
You want people who:

• Have similar values as you
  
  
• Know what is expected of them
  
  
• Are able to work within your structure
  
  
• Treat you, your team, and their peers with respect
  
  

When you choose your clients well, you lessen your chances of having to deal with difficult members. One troubled person can cause chaos, dissention, and devastation in your program.
 
When someone slips in who causes challenges within the group, or doesn’t follow your rules or guidelines, it’s important to take swift action:

• Be aware that your actions tell your group how important they are to you. If someone causing dissention isn't confronted swiftly, you are telling the other members they are not as valuable as the one causing issues.
  
  
• Handle the situation privately and with discretion.
  
  
• If there is overt disrespect of other members, step in immediately. Do so firmly and respectfully.

 
When difficult clients make their way into your program, your job is to protect the other members of your coaching program as well as the program itself.
 
Live Your Values 
​
Ensure your actions match what you're teaching. This is true not only in your business, but also in your life. If you aren't living a life of integrity, this will affect your program even if others aren't aware of it.
 
Showing your Christian values in your life and your business attracts the types of customers you want. You’ll enjoy greater trust, increase your authority in your niche, and reap more rewards from your business.

Since people are more aware now than ever of the importance of looking after themselves – staying healthy and strong – the demand for Certified Health Coaches (CHCs) has boomed, both online and in-person.
 
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the health coaching profession will grow well above the national average of all occupations, at a rate of 17% over the next 10 years!
 
Much of this growth is likely to happen online.

WHAT DO CERTIFIED HEALTH COACHES DO?
 
Certified Health Coaches support their clients by guiding them toward their health goals through positive lifestyle changes and habit modification.

While CHCs do not prescribe, diagnose, or treat illnesses, we help clients to take a whole-person approach helping them deal with a number of health issues such as:

• Immune Health
• Weight Management
• Fatigue
• Digestive issues
• Chronic illness

​As Certified Health Coaches with a Biblical Worldview, we can also address health for the spirit and soul (mind, will, and emotions) of the client. This is how we may address the whole person in spirit, soul, and body for lasting results.

To assist our clients in their health goals, we take a “big picture” approach, considering various areas of their lives such as:

• Diet
• Sleep
• Exercise
• Recreation
• Stress

 
While many of our Certified Health Coach Institute (CHCI) graduates are entrepreneurial and work their private practice from an office at home or in town, there are those who enjoy working as the CHC on staff with:

• Chiropractors
• Naturopathic Doctors
• Fitness Centers
• Churches
• Corporate Wellness Programs
• Integrative or Functional Medical Clinics
• Missions and Aid Societies

 
ONLINE HEALTH COACHING JOBS ARE ON THE RISE
With health care cost increases, more people and corporations are looking for ways to “get healthy and stay healthy.” Health Coaches are on the front lines and their presence has proven invaluable in managing chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and even mental health.
 
Several Benefits of Online Health Coaching for You and Your Clients:

• There are NO boundaries! You can coach clients all over the world. This is a huge blessing for both your potential clients and you.
• Comfort. Clients may feel more comfortable “meeting” a Health Coach online or by phone instead of coming into an office.
• Less expense for you as a Health Coach (no need for a pricey office or commute). Working from home has many advantages!
• Flexibility with your schedule. You don’t have to figure in the extra time in could take preparing to meet a client in person physically.
• If you are caring for children or other loved ones, being able to work from home ensures you are never too far away.

 
 
ONLINE HEALTH COACHING POSITIONS AVAILABLE

• VIRTUAL HEALTH COACHING

When working virtually as a CHC, you are connecting with your clients either online (via Zoom, Skype, Facetime, for example), or by phone. This type of one-on-one interaction with your client can be very rewarding for both of you because it is very much like traditional in-person coaching. You are providing the support and guidance your client needs by working directly with them.

• TELEHEALTH COACHING

This type of coaching is done by phone, and often uses supporting materials such as guides, resources, and tools you email, text, or message your client.

• DIGITAL HEALTH COACHING

This newest form of health coaching uses online platforms or apps to connect the CHC with their clients. This offers clients a variety of resources including tools for tracking progress and accountability. The Digital Health Coach connects with their client via text messaging, so while it can have its place, the personal one-on-one element so important for a successful Coach-Client relationship is missing. This can be rectified if you choose to combine a weekly one-on-one or group connect via Zoom or other platform with the helpful tools an app provides.

CORPORATE WELLNESS PROGRAMS…ONLINE???
It’s been proven that when employees are healthy, they are more productive, take less sick leave, and are generally happier and more satisfied with their work. Wellness programs have become more of a priority with businesses of all sizes and business owners are looking for Certified Health Coaches to head up these initiatives for them either in-person or as an online consultant offering both group and individual sessions.
 
Here are several ways to find jobs for Health Coaches:

• Company websites: Look under the Careers tab or contact the HR department and ask if they have a Corporate Wellness program. Whether they do or not, you can offer your services to them.
• Social Media: Health and wellness companies can be found on LinkedIn and other platforms. Reach out to them and ask about career opportunities for CHCs.
• Online job posting platforms such as ZipRecruiter, Monster, CareerBuilder and others can be helpful in finding opportunities available for CHCs.
• Network with people you know and visit networking groups. Get your name out there in your community and online. Ask, “Who do you know whose business needs a Corporate Wellness program?” Word of mouth may open the door to just the position you were looking for!
